Fiber optic cable appears kinked or bent

Quick fixEstimated time: ~1 minUpdated: 2026-06-03

A kinked fiber cable can damage the optics. Handle it carefully and test before relying on it.

  1. Gently straighten by hand if the kink is minor. Never force — fiber cables are fragile internally, and sharp bends cause permanent damage.
  2. Recalibrate and run a test scan. A damaged fiber typically produces zero or very low readings. Normal results = continue using.
  3. Contact support if results are abnormal. Fiber cables are a warrantied component.
